Writers Who Submit: Taking the Steps to Publication

Presenters
Description

For writers who have taken a number of writing courses and have been practicing and honing their craft for a while, there may come a point when they feel ready to have the world read their work. But how do we get our manuscripts ready? And what is the right way to submit our work for consideration? How do we find the right publications to approach for our specific style and subject matter? Should we aim high or start out with lesser-known outlets? And for book-length projects, how do we find a publisher or agent? How do we get noticed? What are the best practices for building a writing portfolio?

In this weekend course for mid-level to experienced writers with limited or no publishing experience, we will discuss, in a supportive, nonjudgmental space, these and many other questions you may have about entering the publishing arena. You will be guided on your best individual route to becoming a published writer. Expect to leave the course with a specific plan of action catered to your experience level and individual writing, as well as concrete tips and sources to use as you send your work out to be considered by editors for publication.

While we will not workshop writing on a granular level, we will discuss individual writing projects and help tweak them to make them publication ready.

In this workshop, we will offer feedback/first impressions on writing you produce in our weekend; discuss writing you bring from home.
