The Festival Experience

 

For the weeklong and weekend schedules at a glance, keep scrolling. If you're headed to campus and you don't know where to go, these are the essentials:

Weeklong Workshops Registration & Orientation, Sunday Evening

Time: Please arrive between 6:30–7:15 p.m. Weeklong workshops begin Sunday evening with registration and orientation, a light dinner, and your first class meeting. Orientation is at 7:30. Immediately after, you’ll meet with your group in workshop.

Place: Registration and Orientation are in the Black Box Theater, 3rd Floor, Iowa Memorial Union (IMU). Your first class meeting Sunday night will be in the IMU. Thereafter, class meets in Phillips and MacLean Halls.

Parking: The IMU Parking Ramp is across the street from the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU).

If You’re Late: If you miss Sunday night altogether, call the ISWF office Monday morning at 319-335-4160. We will orient you.

 

Weekend Workshops Registration & Orientation, Saturday Morning

Time: Please arrive between 8:30-and 9:15 a.m. Weekend workshops begin on Saturday morning with registration, a continental breakfast, and orientation. Orientation is at 9:30 a.m. Workshops begin immediately after.

Weekend workshops end Sunday at 3:00 p.m.

Place: Registration and orientation are in Phillips Hall, located on the corner of Iowa Avenue and Clinton Street, just east of the Old Capitol Museum (look for the gold dome). Workshops are held in Phillips and MacLean Halls.

Parking: The Capitol Street Parking Ramp adjacent to the Old Capitol Town Center is 0.2 miles from Phillips Hall.

If You’re Late: Latecomers please go directly to Phillips Hall. 

 

YOUR WEEK AT A GLANCE

Weeklong Workshops begin Sunday evening with a light dinner, orientation, and the first class meeting. For the rest of the week, workshops meet each afternoon, Monday through Friday, from 2:00-5:00. Mornings are reserved for The Eleventh Hour Series, and for writing, revising, and annotating manuscripts in preparation for your workshop. Your conference with your instructor may be scheduled in this time, too.

 

Sunday

6:30–7:30 p.m.    Registration and light dinner

7:30 p.m.         Large-group orientation and welcome

8:00 p.m.         First class meeting

 

Monday–Friday

7:30–11:00 a.m.   Coffee and conversation downtown; time to write, read, critique manuscripts, and confer with your instructor

11:00 a.m.         The Eleventh Hour Lecture Series. Phillips Hall

2:00–5:00 p.m.    Meet in workshop

 

Weeklong sessions include the following events:

Monday, 5:30 p.m.       Festival reception

Wednesday, 7:00 p.m.   Open Mic: readings by participants

Thursday, 6:00 p.m.     All-Festival dinner

Note: It is possible to take a weeklong and weekend workshop in succession, and participants routinely do so. They do not overlap.
